Appreciate the Fall Night Sky at UNM-Taos

Look up this fall and discover the wonders of the night sky with “Appreciating the Fall Night Sky: An Introduction to Astronomy,” a community-focused astronomy experience at UNM-Taos.

Open to everyone, the course welcomes beginners, families, community members, and experienced astronomy enthusiasts alike. Participants will spend minimal time in lecture and maximum time stargazing, learning to observe the sky with the naked eye, binoculars, and telescopes.

The program meets weekly on Mondays from October 12 through December 7, 2026, at the UNM-Taos Klauer Campus, STEM 112.

Each evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with a brief introduction, followed by visual astronomy from 7:20 to 9:00 p.m., weather permitting. Participants will learn how to use binoculars and telescopes and have the opportunity to experience one of New Mexico’s largest publicly accessible telescopes.

Whether you are taking your first step into astronomy or already enjoy exploring the cosmos, this is an opportunity to connect with the night sky and learn alongside fellow community members.
